Continue in my word

On Sunday as we gathered at the School hall again we spent some time looking at Jesus words, "If you continue in my word, you will truly be my disciples. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." There is a lot of talk about freedom these days. But the freedom that Jesus was talking about was the freedom from sin (which is mostly about the worship of myself or my desires) so that we can truly love one another. It was the freedom to lay down my life for someone else. It was the freedom to not have to get my own way all the time. When Jesus sets us free, we are really free. 

As we allow ourselves to be formed by the words (teachings) of Jesus, we experience his presence and are changed into people that can love in all kinds of circumstances. If you are like me, you recognise that you have a ways to go in your formation into that kind of person. If we continue in Jesus' teachings, however, we are heading in the right direction and are truly his disciples.
